Oh boy – what a band this was. Originally the brainchild of Bill Carbone, Buru Style had many phases of life. I was lucky to join the outfit on trumpet and eventually bass and play a great many bars of exquisite-feeling “avant-dub”, as we called it. Really, it was the soundtrack of sweaty basement danceouts and outdoor shows when the weather was nice at Wesleyan University, where the band was based out of. We were also fortunate to collaborate with a handful of vocalists as you can see above. I like to think Buru Style is a sleeping giant, lying in wait for the right time to arise and rear its mighty head once again. If you’ve got a basement or dance floor you think could use some of this energy and enough money to get everyone in the same place, you better let me know.
